Academic Advising and Assistance
Academic Advising and assistance is one of the primary responsibilities of the SAC. One of the ways that we do this is by helping students choose the right majors and educational tracks and helping them to succeed in their academic goals.
Tutoring
Tutoring is a service available to all students on an appointment basis at no cost. We are proud to offer this extra academic support, understanding how difficult it can be to achieve academically and do everything else that comes with college.
We have excellent tutors who are able to offer assistance in a wide variety of subjects. Also, if you feel that you would have a group of students intersted in a regular study session for a particular class, we can try to set that up! Call or stop by the SAC to schedule an apointment.

Writing Center
The SAC also has a writing center available to all students on an appointment basis, again at no cost. Students may use this service by bringing in papers of all sizes and have a trained tutor go over with the student what they have written.
A form will be filled out during this appointment that assists the student in focusing on the strengths in their writing and identifying weaknesses that could be worked on. The student is given a copy of this form for their own use and one is also available to be sent to the professor that assigned the paper so that he or she can see that the student made the extra effort to turn in a quality paper.
These sessions are made in 30 minute increments and we ask that you bring your paper in after it has been typed. Please also know that your papers will not simply be "proofed" without your presence.

Advising
The SAC is also available to help students choose and enroll in classes on a semester-by-semester basis with the assistance of their faculty advisors. In particular, the week before pre-registration each semester is set aside to assist students in choosing classes for the following semester.

Graduation Plans
An eight semester Graduation Plan is completed by all incoming freshman to allow them to visualize a rough map that will take them all the wayfrom their first days on campus through graduation. This plan allows students to take hands-on roles in their educational processes. These plans are also available for other students' use and blank copies can be downloaded from the website as well.

Copies of these completed plans are kept in the SAC and sent to faculty advisors for academic advising purposes.
Peer Advisors
The First Year Peer Advisor Program is a way that we provide a transitional relationship between new studenst and volunteer peer advisors. Peer advisors will help new students become involved in the OWU community and will serve as mentors in finding the right paths. These students play very key roles in the lives of our incoming students.
2006-2007 Peer Advisors have been selected, but watch for applications next March if you are interested for the following year.
